We’re looking to recruit new volunteers to take on the butterfly transects at these sites in the limestone landscape.  This is a perfect opportunity for a keen naturalist with good butterfly ID skills who is retired or has flexible working arrangements.

We need someone to walk the transect ideally once a week from April to September noting all the butterflies they see. Alternatively, surveys can be restricted to key flight periods in May to July.  Flexibility is essential as the weather has to be warm, sunny and relatively still to be able to do the survey.

Holme Park Quarry LNR is managed by the Trust, and a mosaic of grassland, scrub and woodland.

Hutton Room Common is not a Trust nature reserve, but we’re supporting the Parish Council and Butterfly Conservation on this important site.

Full training in methodology and induction will be given, but volunteers will need to already have good butterfly identification skills.  We will always try and find a substitute for those weeks you are away or on holiday.
