The Skiddaw Forest story has begun and you can be part of it
We’re growing 600,000 trees to bring a rainforest to life!
Sponsor trees today, for yourself or as a gift, and be part of this epic nature restoration story.
Where will the trees be planted?
The temperate rainforest that we grow together will cover 20% of the Skiddaw Forest area and will take around 100 years to mature, so this really is an investment for the future of our planet.
Can I see where my tree is planted?
Sponsored trees will be planted across 620 acres and it won't be possible to find your individual tree. You can visit using the footpaths which run across the area. This is an exposed, high-altitude site. Good hill walking and navigation skills are needed. Find out more about visiting Skiddaw Forest.
Can I plant a tree for a special occassion?
You can plant a tree to celebrate an occassion or as a tribute to someone, however, you won't be able to visit an individual tree. There is an area on our sponsorship form to add a person's name and a message for your special occassion or tribute. The email can be sent to someone else to arrive immediately or on a chosen future date.
How will my sponsorship contribution be used?
Your donation will help to bring trees and wildlife back to the Skiddaw Forest landscape. Your sponsorship donation will help to keep the nurseries running, by funding compost and tools, electricity and water supply, and staff to co-ordinate volunteer tree-growing.
Can I help plant trees?
You can help plant the trees by volunteering with us! With the help of volunteers, we’re planting 25 species of native trees and shrubs on the slopes, creating a rich haven for lichens and mosses, and a home for upland birds, mammals and plants. Trees can only be planted in autumn and winter and so you need to be prepared for poor weather. Find out more about volunteering with Cumbria Wildlife Trust.
Where are the tree nurseries and how can I get involved?
We’re growing the trees locally in Cumbria, at community nurseries in Kendal, Penrith, Bassenthwaite and Carlisle, as well as in partnership with HMP Haverigg. We welcome volunteers and you can find out more on our website.
