MonthlyWe wish to enhance Cumbria Wildlife Trust’s work with young volunteers aged 11-17. The group will be based in the west of the county in Allonby, with the option of to travelling to reserves or sites owned by partners.
The group will initially be led by two existing volunteers. We are looking for assistant volunteers to be part of a supportive team, who can help with the group when the leaders are on holiday etc.
Long term, the aim is to help the young attendees successfully get involved in a range of nature-based activities, from physical outdoor work to indoor campaigning to community-based volunteering.
The volunteers will help with a range of tasks including completing head counts, filling in paperwork, contributing to planning sessions, working with a group to support them in developing skills such as surveying and monitoring, and ensuring no one is left out.
No specific skills are needed but volunteers must genuinely enjoy working with people.
Potentially suitable for wheelchair users. We would welcome a conversation with volunteers to see how we could make this work.
Role not suitable for under 16s
Commitment: The group will meet monthly
Training/Resources: Opportunities for training, such as First Aid training and safeguarding, will become available.
This role involves working closely with children, so is subject to an Enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check, including a check of the relevant barred list(s), and will be asked to provide two referees. The successful volunteers will also be required to declare any spent or unspent criminal convictions.
