Wildlife walks, mindfulness moments, beach crafts and outdoor exploration – all of these activities can help us reconnect with the natural world. They’re just some of the activities that local businesses and their employees can take part in, on one of our Wild Wellbeing Days.

Thanks to generous funding of £20,000 from green energy company Ørsted, through their Walney Extension Community Fund, we are helping local communities, employees, colleges, youth groups and teams to reconnect not only to nature, but also with each other.

Many of those who are returning to work have experienced loneliness, isolation and stress over the past two years, as a result of the Covid pandemic. Yolanda Aze, Community Engagement Officer at Cumbria Wildlife Trust, explains:

“People are returning to work in all settings, and being back together will be a great relief for some, but a source of anxiety for others. There's significant evidence that contact with nature reduces our levels of stress, improves our self-esteem and increases our resilience. By bringing people back together in a supportive outdoor environment at a Wild Wellbeing Day, whether on the sand dunes or in woodlands, we will help colleagues reconnect with each other, while they experience, re-discover and enjoy the natural world around them.

“The sessions will be fun and inclusive, inspired by the seasons, the local area and the participants. Whether it’s quiet, mindful activities you are looking for, getting your hands dirty with some practical nature conservation, or a livelier, more active exploration of the outdoors, from a shoresearch to an egg-case hunt on the beach (looking for egg-cases from sharks and skates) - we can offer businesses a day that will suit the needs and interests of their employees.”

The Wild Wellbeing Days are offered at stunning locations around Morecambe Bay, including the beaches at Earnse Bay and Biggar Bank, on the western side of Walney Island, near Barrow.
