This charming photo of a redpoll, taken by Rosamund Macfarlane, has recently won our wildlife photography competition.
Rosamund’s photo was judged overall winner of the annual photography competition, and was selected as the cover image for our 2026 calendar which celebrates Cumbria’s wildlife and wild places.
From several hundred entries, a panel shortlisted 12 images for inclusion in the 2026 calendar. Our members then voted on the top three.
In second place were two pine martens by John Cobham, and an intriguing portrait of a very hairy garden tiger moth caterpillar by Martin Garnett came third. Other Cumbrian species featuring in next year’s calendar include an inquisitive otter by Andrew Currie, a hare standing to attention by Mark Meth-Cohn, and a ringed plover skipping across the pebbles, by David Irving.
The 2026 Cumbrian wildlife calendar can now be ordered from our online shop for £10.00.
This year’s Cumbria Wildlife Trust Wildlife Photography Competition was supported by Wilkinson Cameras.
