Join us for two days of wading bird celebration, observation and conservation, with guided walks, talks and activities at South Walney Nature Reserve

Event update:

We regret that Day 1 of Walney WaderFest weekend is CANCELLED due to the adverse weather conditions. 

Day 2 on Sunday 22 October is still going ahead as planned!

All events are free, and they include the dramatic 'Stranded on Foulney'* experience (booking required.) *This part of the event has been cancelled.

The festival is led by Apprentice Conservation Officer Isaac Johnston, an experienced and enthusiastic bird watcher, along with Cumbria Wildlife Trust staff and guest speakers.

#WaderComp photography competition

We are running a festival photography competition with a Jessops Level 1 Photography Course worth £119 up for grabs for the winner!

The instructions are simple: take a great wader photo at either South Walney or Foulney Island nature reserves on 21 or 22 October, submit your picture, and be in with a chance to win! Judging and prize-giving will take place from 3.30pm on Sunday 22 October at South Walney Nature Reserve. Entries can be submitted in person at South Walney, or by posting on Twitter or Facebook with hashtag #WaderComp.

Bring outdoor walking shoes or boots (flat yet uneven terrain), waterproofs and warm clothing.

Please note that dogs (other than assistance dogs) are not allowed on the nature reserves.

Booking is required for the Stranded on Foulney* event. Call 01539 816300 or mail@cumbriawildlifetrust.org.uk to reserve a place. You can just turn up for the rest of the events.  *cancelled due to adverse weather conditions.
