Fighting the Climate Crisis

The climate crisis is the greatest threat to nature we face

We're in the middle of a climate and nature emergency, and the two are inextricably linked.

Climate change is driving nature’s decline, and the loss of wildlife and wild places reduces the ability of the planet to absorb the effects of human activity and leaves us ill-equipped to reduce carbon emissions and adapt to change.

One cannot be solved without the other.

We know from experience that restoring nature can help soak up carbon emissions - known as natural solutions to climate change - whilst contributing many additional benefits like reducing the risk of flooding, cleaning our drinking water, and improving people’s health and wellbeing.

Nature itself is at risk from climate change, but if helped to recover, its potential to store carbon does mean it can help us to turn the tide on the climate catastrophe.

8 things you can do about climate change

Things you can do about climate change

There are simple and easy things that we can all do to reduce our carbon footprint, adapt to climate change and make a big difference to the natural world.

Our simple guide to things you can do about climate change focuses on 8 areas:

Our own carbon footprint

We're committed to reducing Cumbria Wildlife Trust’s carbon footprint to net zero by 2030.

We're working on ways we can reduce our emissions through our use of fuel, improving our buildings and in our conservation work. Our priority is to tackle our highest emissions first, such as staff and volunteer travel, and switch to renewable sources of energy as well as generating our own.
