Red Squirrels Northern England |
|
Save our Squirrels has become Red Squirrels Northern England (RSNE). The change of name has come about through the formation of a new partnership of organisations (The Forestry Commission, Natural England, The Wildlife Trusts and Red Squirrel Survival Trust) following an updated review of red squirrel conservation activity.
The revised focus still keeps the 17 core red squirrel reserves (of which five are in Cumbria) at its heart, but allows for more resources to be allocated to the wider landscape to support these strongholds as they become available.
RSNE is a five-year project, launched by HRH Prince Charles in February 2011, which will undertake strategic grey squirrel control, monitoring and surveying of squirrel populations and conservation efficacy and community engagement.
