Planning appeal - Donate now!

Planning and built development has a huge impact on Cumbria’s wildlife and countryside.  We work extensively with planners, developers and decision-makers to ensure development avoids damage to wildlife and, wherever possible, benefits the natural environment.

If we are to protect our precious wildlife, it is a must that the environmental impact of planning applications is considered.  Cumbria Wildlife Trust is the only organisation in Cumbria that assesses the environmental impact of planned development on wildlife outside of protected areas.  If we are to continue with this valuable work we need to raise the required funds.
Please will consider a financial gift to help us meet the pressing funding requirement to enable this work to continue in the immediate future.

The Trust has one person in post who deals with between 350 and 400 planning consultations each year, from small applications affecting protected species up to major developments.  If we can secure the £20,000 needed, we will be able to keep this expertise in place for at least the next two years, and hopefully longer.

The best way and main role we have in influencing planning applications comes in the pre-application stage.  We are often asked for our comments about what we recommend for wildlife and enhancement of biodiversity within their proposed development.
Opposing planning applications is often the last resort where we either have not had the pre-application consultation from the applicants – or our pre-application comments have been ignored.

We also influence planning policy by commenting on local development frameworks and regional planning documents.  This involves a large amount of detailed work as well as attendance at planning inquiries.

The good news is that the Trust’s involvement in the planning process enables us to press for more environmentally friendly development and secure a better deal for wildlife.
If we are unable to continue this vital role, developments that pose a threat to Cumbria’s valuable wildlife habitats will receive no environmental assessment, which could be devastating for our wildlife.

Please help us to protect our distinctive countryside and the precious habitats that come under threat.

I assure you, your gift really will make a direct difference to our contribution to the planning process.

Gift Aid? I wish Cumbria Wildlife Trust to treat all donations I make including membership payments from today’s date as Gift Aid donations, allowing the Trust to reclaim the tax until I notify you otherwise. I understand the tax reclaimed by the Trust must not exceed the total amount of income or capital gains tax that I pay in a tax year.
