Legacies in action

Nat Dawson was a former chairman of Cumbria Wildlife Trust. He would be delighted with the purchase of land in his memory at the stunning Smardale Gill Nature Reserve.

George Huse spent many years as the voluntary warden at Brown Robin Nature Reserve. His legacy continued to fund management work at the nature reserve long after his death. A memorial tree has been planted at Brown Robin in recognition of his enormous contribution to the Trust.

Betty Mitchell’s great passion was trees and so it is fitting that the Trust used her legacy gift for the conservation of a number of beautiful woodland nature reserves as well as other Trust projects.

Billie Simpson had many happy memories of visits to south Cumbria. Her legacy was used to fund management at Hutton Roof Crags and Juniper Scar nature reserves. The wildlife and wild places in this part of Cumbria held a very special place in her heart.
