The Planting for Pollinators project gets underway

The Planting for Pollinators team are gearing up for a busy year ahead.

The team have recently been joined by two Conservation Officers who are starting their careers in conservation and have a real passion for pollinators.

One of the first tasks for the team has been to carry out site visits and baseline surveys for each of the project's 54 site.  With those visits now almost complete the team can focus on drawing up restoration plans and then working with landowners and local communities to carry out habitat improvements for the benefit of pollinators - that could be laying hedges, creating wildflower meadows or planting plug plants.

The project will be working closely with the plant nursery at Gosling Sike to grow on over 50,000 wildflower plugs using locally sourced seed for use across the project sites.  This means we can grow exactly what species each site needs and they should be able to better withstand the Cumbrian climate.
