A pair of ospreys, female Blue 35 and male White YW, has been breeding on Foulshaw Moss since 2014, and has successfully raised 8 chicks over the past 3 years. All ospreys hatched at Foulshaw Moss are ringed just before they fledge. Here is a record of all the osprey chicks that have hatched on our Foulshaw Moss Nature Reserve.

Distinguishing features:

Also known as ‘Little chick’; his fight to survive was evident from the start. Being the last to hatch he found himself in a relentless struggle to maintain his strength amidst his two much stronger siblings - also driven by the urge to survive especially at feeding times. It looked like he almost wouldn’t survive. He successfully fledged, thankfully down to Blue 35’s beedy eye on him and her skillful feeding between the open beaks of her other two chicks!

We have not had any reports of any of the Foulshaw Moss ospreys returning from their first migration yet, but we are hoping this year (2017) we may see the return of 2014’s chicks.

If you would like to learn more about #FoulshawOspreys why not have a read of my other blog about the parents - Blue 35 and male White YW?
