Beer festival brews up support for Cumbria Wildlife Trust
Moles, swallows and the endangered black grouse will be concerns for real ale enthusiasts at the annual Westmorland Beer Festival. They will have to decide which one to drink first!

Westmorland CAMRA’s annual bash has not only chosen Cumbria Wildlife Trust as this year’s charity ̶ and placed its logo on festival glasses ̶ there are also opportunities to appreciate the county’s nature while tasting some of the 53 ales and 13 ciders and perries on offer.

Wiltshire brewer Moles is offering its strong, dark Molecatcher (5.0%), there is also Allendale Black Grouse (4.0%), a porter from Northumberland, and a cider from Kendal, Cowmire Hall Swallow’s Leap, which is a rather strong 7.5%.

The festival takes place at Kendal Town Hall from Wednesday October 12 to Saturday October 15 and Cumbria Wildlife Trust will be on hand to acknowledge the festival’s support and to explain its work around the county. A Trust display will highlight its work on nature reserves and through the projects it manages to safeguard wildlife.

The Trust will benefit from the beer vouchers that festival goers purchase but don’t use in full. These will be converted to cash by the festival organisers and will be handed over to the Trust to go towards its vital conservation work.

Senior Development Officer Michelle Waller said: “We are delighted to have been chosen by Westmorland CAMRA as the charity for this great event. It is wonderful that they wish to support us and help further our work to look after Cumbria’s wildlife.

“I know that many of the Trust’s staff are regulars at the festival and it is good to know that the work we carry out has such strong support amongst groups like CAMRA. A walk on one of our nature reserves is an ideal way to work up a thirst before a pint of real ale in a friendly local.”

Cumbria Wildlife Trust members can claim a complimentary half pint in the afternoon sessions (12pm to 6pm) of the festival from Wednesday to Saturday if they take a copy of their latest magazine with them.
