From fen orchids to natterjack toads, the wildlife on sand dunes is amazing. But did you know dunes are listed as one of the most threatened habitats in Europe for biodiversity loss?
Dynamic Dunescapes is a national project restoring dunes. Conventional dune management has meant that they have become overgrown with vegetation and stabilized. This has put protected wildlife at risk that rely on bare sand and healthy dune slacks to thrive.
In Cumbria, Dynamic Dunescapes will be working across 11 sites to help rejuvenate our dunes. Cumbria Wildlife Trust is one of seven partners working on the project.
We will be seeking volunteers to help with practical work, to get involved with citizen science by monitoring species, running small nature events, patrolling sites to inform of bird disturbance and manning stalls; for all of which, training and further opportunities will be provided.
