Are you passionate about coastal wildlife? Do you want to be part of a pioneering scheme? We are seeking dedicated volunteers to undertake vital surveying and monitoring work to help conserve our sand dunes- the habitat most at risk in Europe for biodiversity loss.

We are seeking dedicated volunteers to undertake vital surveying and monitoring work to help conserve our sand dunes – the habitat most at risk in Europe for biodiversity loss. This is part of a long-term national scheme to help us monitor these special places to inform future sand dune management.

In Cumbria, the exciting new scheme will be running at Mawbray Banks Nature Reserve, South Walney Nature Reserve and Sandscale Haws National Nature Reserve working with Solway Coast AONB and National Trust.

We are looking for volunteers to take part in collecting important data on the dunes. The role will involve undertaking an annual survey along allocated transects and quadrats between May and August time to help us understand the change in dune profile, habitat variability and the health of dunes via monitoring key plant species.

Dynamic Dunescapes will be running an online workshop to introduce the scheme, what’s involved and to provide a range of online learning resources for those who wish to take part.

After the workshop, volunteers will be invited to book onto optional small group field sessions. This will be an opportunity to link up with other citizen science volunteers, familiarize yourself with the site and collect some data in the field with support from Engagement Officer Eve and other volunteers. We will also cover some basic plant ID and navigational skills to build confidence for undertaking surveying work individually.

The online workshop will take place via Demio on Tuesday 27th April, 18:00 – 19:00 pm

Details of how to join will be provided when you book, please read the confirmation email carefully.
