South Cumbria Placement – with bursary of £2500.

Based at our Kendal office and focusing on our south Cumbrian reserves, particularly Smardale Nature Reserve.

South Walney Placement – with accommodation (including all utility bills) provided on site for the duration of the placement.

Based at our South Walney Nature Reserve and primarily assisting the warden with the running of a suite of nature reserves in the South West of the county.

These placements will give you the unique opportunity to develop conservation skills and knowledge across many of the Trust’s reserves.

Although the precise details of the placements will vary, the successful students will work across our nature reserves, whilst gaining valuable, worthwhile experience in practical conservation and ecological tasks, with a particular emphasis on practical work including infrastructure maintenance, habitat and species monitoring and management and visitor management and engagement.

Full training will be given to carry out a range of reserve tasks including ecological surveys, monitoring, practical site management and facilities maintenance.

It is expected that the placements will start around May 2020 and each student will work four days per week and remain in post for at least nine months to enable them to fulfil the requirements of their degree.

Due to the nature of the work a full driving licence and your own transport are essential.  Travel expenses are provided.

To apply please send a brief CV and a covering letter outlining what you would like to gain from the placement and what skills you can bring to it, by email to admin@cumbriawildlifetrust.org.uk or by post to Cumbria Wildlife Trust, Plumgarths, Crook Road, Kendal, Cumbria, LA8 8LX.  PLEASE CLEARLY STATE WHICH PLACEMENT YOU WOULD LIKE TO BE CONSIDERED FOR OR WHETHER YOU WOULD LIKE TO BE CONSIDERED FOR BOTH PLACEMENT OPPORTUNITIES.

The deadline for applications is 5pm on Wednesday 26 February 2020.

Interviews will be held shortly after the closing date.

For further information regarding either of the roles please contact Jamie Normington, Senior Education and Volunteer Officer by email jamien@cumbriawildlifetrust.org.uk or phone on 01539 816300.

Please note that all sandwich placements need to be filled by individuals on a recognised sandwich programme or equivalent, while the individuals are enrolled at a university, working towards their undergraduate degree.
