Things to consider

Gifts to charity are tax-free. If you leave a legacy to Cumbria Wildlife Trust the value of the legacy is deducted from your estate before inheritance tax is calculated. This means your gift not only benefits the Trust, it can also reduce you liability to inheritance tax.

You may want to give a specific gift (e.g. property or land). If this is the case, we recommend that you contact us, so that we can work together to ensure that your wishes are, or can be, accommodated in the Trust’s plans. Cumbria Wildlife Trust will always take account of your wishes for the future use of your gift.

Alternatively, you may want to specify how your cash gift should be spent. Sometimes a restriction in a Will, written many years previously, is no longer achievable. It is therefore better to make a recommendation as to the way in which the money should be spent rather than to actually place a formal condition on the gift. We will always strive to respect the wishes of a donor. If you do have specific wishes for your gift, we would encourage you to contact us to discuss this. If we are aware of your wishes, we can notify you in the future should any changes take place, for example in Trust policy or plans, which would affect our ability to carry out your wishes.
