Muncaster Owlets are first to hear Benjamin the Dog’s latest wildlife adventure

The latest Cumbria Wildlife Trust story recounting Benjamin’s recent adventure and rescue of Norman the Naughty Newt has been launched at an exclusive reading at Muncaster Castle. The Muncaster Owlets Wildlife Watch group waited with anticipation to hear the story read out loud by its author - the group of seven to 11 year olds also had the opportunity to meet the real Benjamin. The Watch group is a junior branch of Cumbria Wildlife Trust.

Meanwhile, Cumbria Wildlife Trust has also published the story online in the Kid's Space section of their website (click here to download the story now).  In this new story, Benjamin’s day out is turned on its head when he discovers that this great crested newt has gone missing from his yellow bucket. Benjamin then spends his day searching for Norman, ultimately with success.

In this latest story, written by Susanne Lloyd-Jones and illustrated by Hazel McGlashan, Benjamin asks some owls for advice as to where to look for Norman. He also searches the rooms of a castle in the hope of locating the mischievous Norman.

Hilary Lange Conservation Officer for the World Owl Trust and Muncaster Owlets Watch group leader said, "It is fantastic that Susanne found her inspiration from pond-dipping with our Watch group.  We are so lucky to have Muncaster Castle along with its beautiful grounds and of course the World Owl Centre as the backdrop to our own adventures, and are all very happy to now be joined by Benjamin's adventures too".

This is the second of Benjamin’s wild adventures that have been published by Cumbria Wildlife Trust. The first story saw Benjamin meet up with Rowan the Red Squirrel and learn about the plight of the now rare red. This too is published on line and in addition there is a live reading of the story by Susanne and Benjamin posted on U-tube.

The Muncaster Owlets is a fun and exciting wildlife club for children aged between 7 and eleven years of age. The club meets once a month when it takes a look at the wild world outside our doors. If you are interested in joining the group, please contact Hilary Lange at the World Owl Trust on 01229 717393.
