Limestone pavement
Rare in Europe, around 90% of the UK Limestone Pavement is to be found in Cumbria, north Lancashire, and North Yorkshire. It is still being damaged by the removal of stone for garden use. Set up in 1994, the Action Group comprises The Wildlife Trusts, Council for National Parks, Yorkshire Dales National Park, Council for the Protection of Rural England, Plantlife, Geologists' Association, Friends of the Earth, and the Botanical Society of the British Isles.
