Kendal Kingfishers are to build new homes for Wildlife Trust birds |
|
Members of Kendal Kingfishers, the wildlife club for those aged between 7 and 12 years, are going to be making bird boxes at their next meeting on Tuesday 12 January. These bird boxes will then be put up at Cumbria Wildlife Trust’s Enid Maples Nature Reserve, in Kendal, to help encourage the local birds to breed over the coming spring and summer.
The young wildlife enthusiasts meet once a month at Cumbria Wildlife Trust’s headquarters at Plumgarths between 5.30pm and 6.45pm. Each month, the children learn about a different aspect of Cumbria’s wildlife; they have had visits from the World Owl Trust and experts on bats, and have taken part in pond-dipping and mini-beast hunt activities. Over the coming year, the group will be welcoming back the World Owl Trust plus designing and making a felt collage for Cumbria Wildlife Trust’s Plumgarths office, finding out about red squirrels and visiting South Walney Nature Reserve, near Barrow.
As places are limited to 20 children, it is essential that you book your place at the next gathering; just call 01539 816300. There is a charge of £1.00 per child. Find out more. Any young wildlife watcher who attends three meetings receives a free Wildlife Watch T-shirt.
