Marine Sightings

Cumbria Wildlife Trust is keen to help further the work already achieved by other organisations and with your help, we have the chance to increase our contribution to the national marine life databases and in the process learn more about the animals that inhabit our seas. This increased knowledge this will help us to answer questions like: where do our grey seals go to breed, do harbour porpoises stay in our county's sea all year round, and are we seeing signs of global warming in the types of fish that are moving north to swim off our coast?

So if you are out and you spot a marine animal please let us know. Our sighting page offers advise about the type of information we are looking for and you can also download ID guides and sightings forms.

Cumbria has a fantastic variety of marine life, which can be found right on your doorstep, from the gigantic basking shark to the minute beadlet anemone. So head out to the coast and enjoy the view, you never know what you might see! Click here for more information
