Nine months ago I began a marine conservation traineeship led by Cumbria Wildlife Trust in conjunction with The Wildlife Trust for Lancashire, Manchester and North Merseyside and financed by the Heritage Lottery Fund.
National Marine Week saw the return of Cumbria Wildlife Trust’s Beached Art event. The sun was out, and as the clouds cleared the Isle of Man materialised in the distance as families headed to St Bees beach on the west coast of Cumbria to spend the day celebrating the Irish Sea.
My name is Louise and I am the new Trainee Marine and Coastal Conservation Officer down at South Walney Nature Reserve. I’ve now been here since 13th January and so far I have loved it! I live on Walney Tuesday to Thursday in the Coastguard Cottages and the rest of the time I am free to do as I wish (although I’d rather be here for the other four days!)
