For decades we have taken our seas for granted, taking too much with too little care.  Fragile habitats have been damaged and species brought to the brink of extinction.  We believe it is not too late to turn this situation around.  Our seas and sea life have a remarkable ability to recover, but only if opportunities are seized to allow our seas to bounce back.  If we act now, an Irish Sea in which wildlife thrives is within our grasp.

Our Wild Oceans project is working to promote responsible fishing in the Irish Sea and aims to help you make the right choices when buying fish and seafood. We'll help to answer questions such as: What is ‘sustainable’ or ‘responsible’ seafood? How do I know which fish to buy? Where can I get locally caught fish? What on earth do I do with it?

The recently passed Marine and Coastal Access Act has brought in new laws allowing the creation of Marine Conservation Zones in UK waters.  These zones are an exciting new approach that will protect places of national importance for their marine wildlife, habitats and geology, in the same way that nature reserves do on land.

The deadline for recommending Marine Conservation Zones is 2012, so we now have a ‘once in a lifetime’ opportunity to influence a momentous change for marine conservation. If we succeed, we will have achieved something our children and grandchildren will thank us for.

Please make a donation to help us with our work to protect the wildlife in the Irish Sea.
